The climate and geography of the Puritama and Purifica river basins in the Reserve allow for the development of a diverse flora and vegetational formations. There are different types of vegetational formations categorized as cacti, shrubs, succulents, and more.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243;][vc_gallery interval=&#8221;3&#8243; images=&#8221;7122,7119,7118,7117,7116,7115,7114&#8243; img_size=&#8221;600&#215;450&#8243;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=&#8221;Fauna&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1645540061557-b416652b-e06199ec-e9b3&#8243;][vc_row_inner content_placement=&#8221;middle&#8221;][vc_column_inner width=&#8221;1\/2&#8243; css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1646753770713{margin-right: 20px !important;margin-left: 20px !important;}&#8221;][vc_column_text]This territory is home to a variety of fauna, where different types of birds, insects, amphibians, arachnids, reptiles and mammals can be seen, including the <strong>Andean Cat (<em>Leopardus jacobita<\/em>)<\/strong>, an endangered species that Explora has been monitoring since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The Andean cat is one of the most unknown, rare and threatened cats in the world. It is also called &#8220;the Ghost of the Andes&#8221; because of how hard it is to see. Its body is small \u2013 twice the size of a domestic cat \u2013 gray with brown spots and a long bushy tail with rings, helping it to blend into its habitat. It is estimated that there are currently 1,400 Andean cats, which live under extreme temperatures in the high altitudes of Chile, Peru, Bolivia and Argentina, with viscachas being their main source of food.
